The Crawler Collection

RC Cars

The crawlers live on a shelf in the office. There are five of them. My wife has one of them. This is how it goes.

Axial SCX24 Base Camp (mine)

SCX24 Base Camp with body on

This was the first one. White body, red beadlock wheels, and enough mods that it barely resembles a Base Camp anymore. The SCX24 is a stupid-fun platform — small enough to run on the coffee table, capable enough to take outside and find actual terrain to crawl.

SCX24 stripped chassis

The stripped chassis shot is from a tire swap. It always looks worse than it is.

Axial SCX24 Bronco (my wife’s)

Wife's SCX24 Bronco

She picked red. She also picked up the hobby faster than I expected, which is either great news or a problem for the budget. Her Bronco is modded too — she has opinions about this stuff now.

Traxxas TRX4m — Injora Jeep Wrangler Body

TRX4m with Injora Jeep body

The TRX4m is a step up from the SCX24 — bigger, heavier, more capable on real terrain. This one runs an Injora Jeep Wrangler body in OD green, which replaced the stock body after about a month. It’s the one that actually goes outside and gets muddy.

That mud is earned.

Traxxas TRX4m K10 High Trail

TRX4m K10 High Trail

The K10 High Trail in black with chrome trim. This one stays cleaner than the Injora rig — it’s the one I take out when I want it to look good on a rock instead of in a puddle. The High Trail suspension geometry is noticeably better for technical crawling.

Traxxas TRX4m Bronco

TRX4m Bronco in Area 51

Area 51 is the official Traxxas color name. It’s a teal-grey that looks different in every lighting condition. Aftermarket front bumper, red shackles. This is the one people notice first on the shelf.

Three TRX4ms feels excessive until you realize they’re all slightly different enough to justify it. That’s what I keep telling myself.
